| Here is a chart showing the number of programs beginning with the 22 we had in 1960 and increasing exponentially to about 65 (excluding those from the former TUNS). At the end of each decade there were about 32% more programs than at the beginning. Including former TUNS programs, the regularity of our past behavior leads to the expectation that there will be well over 100 programs in 2010. There is no question that the changing world provides us with the opportunity and requirement to offer new programs - often at the boundaries between disciplines or professions. Whereas we have become quite proficient at opening new programs, closing programs remains a challenge. |
